Gog and Magog

The names 'Gog' and 'Magog' are found in the Old Testament, in the Pseud-Epigrapha and the Qumran-writings, in the Targums and in other Jewish texts, in the New Testament, in the wirtings of the Church Fathers, and even in the Koran. In most aof these texts Gog and Magog are persons or nations opposing God's people in the endtime-tribulations.Sverre Bøe focuses on John's use of various Gog and Magog traditions in Revelation 19,17-20,10. He assembles all these traditions and also refers to several hundreds of scholarly works on these many texts. He further contributes to the ongoing discussions about the inter-textual relationship between Revelation and the Old Testament. He argues that John used Ezekiel 38-39 extensively, and that there are structural analogies beween Rev. 19,11-22,5 and Ezek. 36-48. Although Sverre Bøe does not raise the fundamental questions about the co-called millennium in Rev. 20 as such, he givesmany implications for that issue also. Finally he concludes that Revelation does not see Gog and Magog as Israel's enemies in an ethnic sense, since John seems to universalize his pre-texts to fit the New Testament notion of God's people as comprising Christians of all nations.

Critical Thinking and Islam

This work is aimed at providing an Islamic perspective on few selected informal logical fallacies. It serves an introduction to the theme of critical thinking and opens ways of reflecting on it, which is the main portion of critical thinking as a subject.Islamic critical thinking in principles and details becomes different from Western critical thinking in many ways. Some of it could be seen in the details of this work. And Muslims should be critical within their own given parameters -- being critical within the confines of reason and revelation, not as an opposite approach in which reason may be taken as an opposite to revelation and vice versa, but as a complimentary approach. According to Islam Allah created the first human being as the seminal beginning of the world population as it is today and Allah gave reason, senses, and revelation to the first man to guide him. Therefore, according to Islam all these faculties should be respected and if they are used properly they will help people leading and living a well guided and righteous life.

Spirit of Prophecy (Latter Day Saints)
45,00 € *
ggf. zzgl. Versand

The concept of the Spirit of Prophecy as found in the LDS church was first described by Joseph Smith, Jr. Smith believed that each individual person was capable of receiving revelation for themselves and those they presided over in their group or family. This enables Latter Day Saints to understand to what extent they are in harmony with the mind and the will of God. The term "personal revelation" is also common parlance. Two Biblical scriptures that are often used to remind LDS adherents of the importance of seeking personal revelation are Revelation 19:10, which concludes ": worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy" and Numbers 11:29, which concludes: "would God that all the Lord's people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his spirit upon them!" Thus, the spirit of prophecy is understood to be an important gift of the Spirit that is available through adherence to true worship of God, obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel, study of the scriptures, following leaders who have been called by revelation, and understanding the guidance offered by the gift of the Holy Ghost. (See Doctrine and Covenants Sections 8 and 9).

Relationality in Theological Anthropology
61,60 € *
ggf. zzgl. Versand

Primary human experience, taken as a starting point to explain the mysteries of faith, is more and more taking a center stage in contemporary theological treatise. This theological trend is more appealing to people that abstract concepts. When we look at man in the drama of life, we observe that he is essentially a relational being, and therefore he can only find meaning, value and fulfillment in life when he is living in communion with God, other people and the world. This is not human making, but God s own design. Relationality in Theological Anthropology: The African Perspectives probes the relational character of man, particularly as the African worldview and lived experience explicates it. This is an attempt to use the insights acquired from the primary human experience to explain various mysteries of Christian Revelation, in the African thought pattern. At the same time, we allow the same Christian Revelation to illumine human experience and help people to live a more fulfilled life.

This book offers a comparative theological exploration of the challenges and opportunities presented by the Qur'anic representation of Christianity as the People of the Book , ahl al-kitab , in the Qur'anic commentary tradition. The research is divided into three parts. The first part explores the Qur'anic understanding of the People of the Book through traditional Islamic exegesis, known as tafsir , of four Islamic scholars whose work spans more than a thousand years. Part two takes a closer look at the pre-Islamic period, the occasion of revelation of the Qur'an as well as the Arabic speaking Christian response to Islam in the post-conquest period. Part Three explores the modern use of the term People of the Book by several scholars in the context of our increasingly interconnected and pluralist societies.

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. People of Ya-Sin is the phrase used by Muslims to refer to an ancient community who are mentioned in the Qur'an as the People of the City or the Companions of the City. The location and people of this city has been the subject of much scholarly debate in Islam.According to the Qur'an, God sent two prophets to this particular community (Qur'an 36:13). When the people of the city refused to hear their words, God sent a third prophet to strengthen them. The prophets told the people: "Truly we have been sent on a mission to you" (Qur'an 36:14). The community mocked the message of the prophets and said" "You are only men like ourselves, and (the Lord) Most Gracious sends no sort of revelation. You do nothing but lie!" (Qur'an 36:15).
